Belichick Attacks a False Clip in a CBS Interview About His Girlfriend Jordan Hudson
Bill Belichick, the North Carolina football coach, is rebuffing a contentious CBS News interview including a fleeting but viral moment involving his girlfriend, Jordon Hudson. He said the footage distorted what actually happened during the segment endorsing his new book The Art of Winning and called the portrayal “a false narrative”.
In a statement North Carolina issued on Wednesday, Belichick clarified that CBS used selectively edited clips to create the impression Hudson was trying to control the conversation—something he vehemently denies.
Anchor Tony Dokoupil asked about Belichick’s relationship with the 24-year-old Hudson during the CBS News Sunday Morning interview. Hudson interrupted before Belichick could respond, “We’re not talking about this,” to which Dokoupil said, “No?” Hudson said, “No.” simply.
Dokoupil’s account of Hudson’s “constant presence” during the interview helped this moment swiftly gather steam online. Belichick clarified, though, that he had made it abundantly evident to Simon & Schuster’s publicist that interviews should remain mostly focused on the book’s content.
Belichick claims that several times the interview strayed off-topic, which caused Hudson—who has both a personal and professional relationship with him—to intervene and steer the conversation back on track.
CBS, however, claimed the interview was always meant to be broad-ranging and issued its own statement refuting any preconditions had been set. According to the network, Belichick’s publisher confirmed this understanding both before and after the taping.
The interview also discussed Belichick’s decision to leave Patriots owner Robert Kraft out of his book, even though the two have worked together for 24 years and won six Super Bowls. Kraft publicly declared that he had “fired” Belichick, to which the coach replied that it had been a “mutual decision,” according to Dokoupil.
Belichick emphasized at the end of his statement that Hudson’s participation was solely intended to bring the conversation back to the book, which was the agreed upon topic. “We have been open about the fact that Jordon and I met on a flight to Palm Beach in 2021,” he added, adding that their relationship has never been concealed.
